Should my partner attend?
I encourage partners to attend when possible. It is appropriate to attend alone. You may also invite a friend, family member, or doula if your partner cannot attend.
Is there a particular childbirth method taught?
No. Mindful Birth includes a “menu” of many ways to enjoy birth. Each week, we’ll practice a few techniques so you can find what resonates with you. These include imagery, breathing exercises, movement, meditation, and affirmations.
What is your teaching style?
Students who attend a childbirth class are typically highly-motivated learners. As such, this class combines hands-on practice, lecture, visuals, and discussion. Having worked with birthing families for over a decade, I am sensitive that some students are apprehensive about what might happen in a childbirth class. I promise it won’t be weird or awkward. I also avoid graphic birth videos or images.
When should I begin?
You may join a Mindful Birth series at any point in your pregnancy. Some couples begin early and some start at the last minute. It is really up to you!
What if I want an epidural?
Guess what? You are in charge of your birth! A childbirth class provides knowledge, resources, and support. These three things are important whether you plan to give birth under a waterfall by moonlight or you plan to get an epidural as soon as you arrive at the hospital. No judgement; only empowerment.
